With our AGM planned for 14th July at 8pm, we thought it might be useful if we outlined the committee roles that currently exist within FOSSA, including two roles we would love to see filled for the upcoming year.

Anyone with an interest in Shoscombe School can run to be elected to the FOSSA committee – parents, carers, grandparents, school neighbours – anyone! If elected, please note that you’ll need to obtain a clean DBS check which the school will support you in obtaining.

Please note that even where an existing committee member intends to re-stand, others with an interest in the role are still welcomed (and encouraged) to stand against them. All existing committee members will be available to handover and support new committee members during a transition process. You can self-nominate and will need someone to second your nomination at the AGM. If multiple candidates are nominated for a role, a vote will take place.

Mandatory roles (we have to fill these each year)

Chair of FOSSA
The role of the chair of FOSSA is to lead meetings of the committee. Additional roles of the chair include: supporting and supervising other committee members, supporting the delivery of events and activities, holding the casting vote during FOSSA meetings.
This role is currently held by Rob Williams, who has done the role for three years and DOES NOT INTEND to stand again for 2023/24. We are very grateful to Rob for all the work he has put in to FOSSA during his term. He welcomes questions about this and any other role on the committee – rob@fossa.org.uk

Secretary
The role of the secretary of FOSSA is to schedule and minute meetings, to ensure paperwork is kept up to date, to ensure that the charity’s insurance is up to date and to support communications between the charity and its members.
This role is currently held by Anna Lynch.

Treasurer
The role of the treasurer is to keep on top of FOSSA’s finances. You will present a report at each committee meeting outlining income and expenditure, and you will be responsible for completing our annual charity commission return. This is a role that can be done with limited daytime availability.
This role is currently held by Lloyd Randall.

Additional roles (these roles make running FOSSA a lot more effective)

Vice Chair
This role supports the Chair in all of their roles, and takes on the role of Chair should the Chair be unavailable for any reason. They also support all other committee members as required.
This role is currently held by Helen Wilshire, who is open to stepping down this year.

Event Coordinator
This role takes the lead in planning and delivering events for FOSSA, but will always be supported by other committee members. This role ensures that an outline event plan is available for the term ahead and considers the need for volunteer recruitment.
This role is currently vacant.

Local Engagement Lead
This role leads liaison between FOSSA, the school, and local village groups such as the Shoscombe Village Hall Committee, the Shoscombe Climate and Nature Group, the Parish Council and the local church. It would be a perfect role for someone living within Shoscombe.
This role is currently vacant.

Have another role you’d like to suggest? Anyone can propose a new committee role to be created – you will need someone to propose the role at the AGM, then you will need to nominate yourself and have someone second your nomination. If there is competition for the role then voting will take place.
